Mr. Bartmann is a billionaire with amazing credentials. He was talking on one of the most important characteristic of the wealthy, without this one characteristic they would never reach their lofty goals. What is this one attribute? What is this one trait?

It’s self esteem. The biggest cause of procrastination starts with low self esteem. If we feel poorly about ourselves, we allow distractions to rule our lives. As a coach, I began to do a gut check on his interpretation.

I used to think that excuses were the major cause of procrastination. But I have personally come to realize that until I began to work on my own self esteem issues, everything else constantly backtracked. I saw my motivation ebb and flow. I felt success, but endured much more failure.

My greatest lessons in life have come from raising my own children. They are my canaries in the coal mine.

As we watch our children grow, my wife and I have deeply instilled in our offspring the deep unfailing love and sense of astonishment that we have in their achievements. We marvel at how amazing they are at accomplishing challenges and reaching their objectives.

As I have developed as a coach I have searched hard to find that one aspect of my kid’s brilliance. That one core component, to help me move clients into their own unstoppable success.

I love the way Mr. Bartmann positions his diagnosis on self-esteem. He mentions that Newton captured the amazing relationship that causes an apple to fall to the ground. Mr. Newton defined it as Gravity. The crazy thing was, then everyone said, “well of course”.

Esteem is in that same category. It is so obvious, but it’s so subtly missing in so many people.

Help change someone’s esteem and watch their life change practically overnight. Have them work on anything else and watch time after time their backsliding.

The reason why I know how true Bartmann’s analysis is, I have seen within my own life, periods of low self esteem. I experienced how it brought about tremendous and consistent failure.

What did the low point come from? There were many. As a child I stuttered. I was thin and awkward. I was a poor student. Worst of all, as an adult, I frequently sought out companies that would challenge it.

Yet I now get in front of audiences with hundreds of people with no problem. Not only did I graduate from college. I managed to get into college and take on the rigorous challenge of an engineering degree.

Overcoming your weaknesses after a while acts to really strengthen your esteem. But left unchecked and it can sabotage your progress.

My most recent episode of esteem-smashing came from working for an abusive employer. Well not the employer but one major partner in the firm. She belittled everyone. She was known as The Annihilator. Unbelievably, she proudly wore that moniker.

Inadvertently, I found myself victim to her methods. I didn’t cry like the restaurant waitresses did. I didn’t cower like her Fortune 1000 corporate classroom students did. The thing was, being systematically verbally abused I became desensitized. I saw myself switch from being confident, action oriented to second guessing myself.

There was a tremendous drain of my energy level. I had never thought of myself as a victim. But, I became part of the walking dead zombie robot community.

I was emotionally, morally, and spiritually drained from it. My confidence was so shaken it took me years to regain the stature I once had. All of this occurred while my efforts placed the financial well being of the company to such stable footing that they survived the torrential times after 9/11. It gave me a moment of quiet pause when I heard she left.

That was several years ago. To this day, I meet people who use her style of “Helping” people change. I have learned to keep a good distance away from individuals like that now.

I have found there is another more productive way to watch people reach tremendous potential. That is one reason why I love coaching.

It comes from building them up, not tearing them down. Of getting them to change from the inside for their own reasons that support their natural purpose and talents. Reasons, that they can get glimpses of from examining moments throughout their lives. There are cause and effect relationships that allow them options and choices.

I have discovered much from that viscous nasty person.

The most valuable lesson is about energy.

If you begin to notice a drop in your energy level.

If you begin to see life as a victim.

Then it’s time to think about looking at your self esteem.

As you begin to transition back to life you can make it easy or hard. The best way to make it easier is to simply say as Les Brown says, “It’s Possible”.

That way you don’t have to fight with yourself. You are merely accepting that you are who you are and that “It’s Possible” to change.

Are you finding what I am talking about is really clear in your soul?
